The Well-Being of Children Due to Their Health Insurance

Updated: May 19, 2019

I was recently asked what my opinion is on health insurance coverage and the affect it has on children's well being. After extensive research, I came to a conclusion. Private health insured children have a greater chance of being properly taken care of opposed to government sponsored or children who have no health insurance. According to Child Trends, "Insurance coverage by itself does not guarantee that children will receive appropriate and timely care." They also state that one barrier contributing to these kids not receiving proper care is, "the supply of providers who accept a child’s insurance plan, "Some children don't get helped due to hospitals and other care providers not accepting their 'public' health insurance. In order to provide children with proper medical care all care providers should have to accept any insured patient, and the government should change healthcare insurance to become a necessity instead of an option. We need to work together to raise awareness of this global issue and make change occur.
